The Stillwater City Council voted 5-0 Monday to pay the YMCA $50,000 a year in exchange for reduced-fee public swim access, children's programming and a guarantee that no one is turned away from the Y for inability to pay.
The agreement gives Stillwater residents a formal claim on pool access in a city that has not operated a public swimming pool since 2023. The Stillwater Municipal Pool in Couch Park was closed for the 2024 season for repairs and never reopened.
