Nearly every elected official and candidate who answered a Stillwegian survey said they will vote against State Question 844, and most said they will vote for State Question 846. Stillwegian readers, polled separately, rejected both.

The sharper divide is on SQ 846. Officials and candidates backed the voter identification measure 12-6. Readers rejected it better than 2-to-1. On SQ 844 the two groups pointed the same direction; on 846 they pointed opposite ways.
