Trish Ranson, 56, Stillwater

Democrat — Incumbent, Oklahoma House District 34

Ranson has represented House District 34 since 2018 and is seeking her fifth term. Before running for office, she taught elementary music for 15 years at Westwood Elementary in Stillwater and served as a conductor with the OSU Youth Choir. She holds a bachelor's degree from Wichita State University and a graduate degree from Oklahoma State University.

At the Capitol, Ranson serves as House Democratic Caucus Chair — a post she has held since 2023 — and sits on the Full Appropriations and Budget, Health and Human Services Oversight, Agriculture, and Postsecondary Education committees. Her most recent legislation, HB 1979, creates an Early Childhood Task Force to study how Oklahoma delivers services to children ages birth through five; it passed both chambers and signed into law by the governor in May.

Over the years, I have come to admire Trish not only for her passion and dedication to public service, but also for the character and professionalism she brings to her work every day. Serving as one of the few Democratic legislators in a predominantly Republican state requires resilience, courage and an exceptional ability to build relationships. Trish possesses those qualities in abundance. She has a gift for bringing people together and finding common ground across differences.

I have personally witnessed Trish navigate difficult situations with remarkable grace. On more than one occasion, I have seen her singled out by colleagues during events at the Capitol. Each time, she responded with dignity, professionalism and a focus on the work at hand. Her ability to remain respectful and constructive in challenging circumstances speaks volumes about her character.

What stands out most is her unwavering commitment to the people she serves. Trish consistently makes herself accessible to her district, attending community forums, legislative breakfasts and public events. When she is unable to directly solve a problem, she connects people with the resources and individuals who can help. She believes in educating constituents with facts, empowering them to make informed decisions rather than appealing to opinion or rhetoric.

Trish is a tireless advocate for children, families and educators. Her ability to understand the broader challenges facing our communities while identifying practical, meaningful solutions is reflected in the legislation she champions and successfully advances.
