Trish Ranson, 56, Stillwater

Democrat — Incumbent, Oklahoma House District 34

Ranson has represented House District 34 since 2018 and is seeking her fifth term. Before running for office, she taught elementary music for 15 years at Westwood Elementary in Stillwater and served as a conductor with the OSU Youth Choir. She holds a bachelor's degree from Wichita State University and a graduate degree from Oklahoma State University.

At the Capitol, Ranson serves as House Democratic Caucus Chair — a post she has held since 2023 — and sits on the Full Appropriations and Budget, Health and Human Services Oversight, Agriculture, and Postsecondary Education committees. Her most recent legislation, HB 1979, creates an Early Childhood Task Force to study how Oklahoma delivers services to children ages birth through five; it passed both chambers and signed into law by the governor in May.

Trish possesses those qualities in abundance. She has a gift for bringing people together and finding common ground across differences.

I have personally witnessed Trish navigate difficult situations with remarkable grace. On more than one occasion, I have seen her singled out by colleagues during events at the Capitol. Each time, she responded with dignity, professionalism and a focus on the work at hand. Her ability to remain respectful and constructive in challenging circumstances speaks volumes about her character.

What stands out most is her unwavering commitment to the people she serves. Trish consistently makes herself accessible to her district, attending community forums, legislative breakfasts and public events. When she is unable to directly solve a problem, she connects people with the resources and individuals who can help. She believes in educating constituents with facts, empowering them to make informed decisions rather than appealing to opinion or rhetoric.

Trish is a tireless advocate for children, families and educators. Her ability to understand the broader challenges facing our communities while identifying practical, meaningful solutions is reflected in the legislation she champions and successfully advances.

A message from Trish Ranson

Serving House District 34 has been one of the great honors of my life, and I'm running for another term because our work isn't finished.

Health care, education and equal opportunity aren't separate issues — they're threads of the same fabric. When one frays, the whole thing weakens.

That's why I continue to pass legislation that strengthens all Oklahomans. I authored the bill that created Oklahoma's Early Childhood Task Force, bringing together pediatricians, educators, legislators, advocates and many others to build better support for our youngest kids. I also helped secure a $250 million veterinary teaching hospital for Oklahoma State University — passed with bipartisan support — because good ideas shouldn't depend on which party is in charge. I also sponsored legislation expanding health care coverage for new mothers so more Oklahoma families have support in those critical first months.

Protecting health care isn't just about medicine — it's about protecting jobs, families and local economies across Oklahoma. Strengthening education strengthens every part of our state's future. And standing up for equal opportunity means every Oklahoman has the same right to happiness and opportunity, regardless of who they are or where they live.

Going forward, I'm committed to continuing this work by protecting what matters and building what's next for Stillwater and for Oklahoma. I'm asking for your support this November so we can do it together.
