The margins were thin, but the Cowgirls are flashing their brooms on their trek back to Stillwater.
On Sunday, No. 20 Oklahoma State finalized a three-game road sweep of Utah with a 4-2 win on Sunday at Dumke Family Softball Stadium in Salt Lake City. It marked OSU's first Big 12 sweep this season, and its first road sweep in conference play in two years, which came against Houston in April 2024.
The Cowgirls (25-10, 7-5 Big 12) rode a complete game from ace Ruby Meylan in 2-1 series-opening win on Friday. Meylan struck out six, allowing as many hits to only one run, as a two-RBI single from Amanda Hasler in the top of the third was all OSU needed to secure the victory.
Saturday, however, wasn't exactly smooth sailing.
A message from Visit Stillwater
Orange Power Weekend is coming to America's friendliest college town — packed with the Remember the 10 run, the spring football game, OSU Big 12 baseball, and softball. Put on your brightest orange and cheer on the Cowboys, then stick around for Calf Fry, Red Dirt concerts, and downtown arts festivals.
The Utes (25-11, 4-5 Big 12) erupted with a six-run bottom of the first to take a 6-1 lead through the first inning. But the Cowgirls clawed their way back, taking the lead off a one-out, RBI double from Hasler in the top of the sixth to clinch the series.
Then came the final blow.
A two-run top of the sixth was the difference in the series finale, as Lexi McDonald delivered a go-ahead RBI double to right field. Tia Warsop finalized OSU's scoring on the day with a bases-loaded walk shortly after, before Meylan slammed the door over the latter 3 2/3 frames to secure the sweep.
OSU is 21st in the RPI in after Sunday. More opportunities to bolster that number linger, including an impending road series at Iowa State in two weeks, after its bye next weekend. Shortly after comes a marquee midweek clash with Bedlam rival Oklahoma on April 15 in Oklahoma City.
