The Lady Pioneers pulled off a comeback win in their district opener against the Moore Lions on Thursday.

Play was briefly halted as temperatures climbed into the mid-90s, triggering a heat index check by officials. Under new guidelines from the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association, coaches and administrators are required to monitor the heat index before and during outdoor events. When readings approach 95 degrees, schools are advised to schedule mandatory water breaks every 30 minutes and make cooling measures available.

In this case, officials paused the contest for about 10 minutes to allow both teams to rehydrate and cool down before play resumed. OSSAA’s extreme heat policy encourages schools to delay or modify activity once the heat index nears 100 degrees and mandates the suspension of all outdoor play at 105 degrees or higher. The stoppage ensured athletes could safely continue without added risk of heat-related illness.

Catcher, Callé Cox’s three-run homer in the sixth inning tied the game at 5-5. Pitcher, Saisului Kolone’s solo homer gave the Pioneers a 6-5 lead, which they defended in the seventh inning with a double play by left fielder, Landen Warner and third baseman Michelle Kolone.
